English level B1 is the third level of English in the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), a definition of different language levels written by the Council of Europe. In everyday speech, this level would be called “intermediate”, and indeed, that is the official level descriptor in the CEFR.
B1 LEVEL SKILLS
What language competences characterize a B1 level learner in English? According to the CEFR, the learner:
- can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc.
- can deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken.
- can produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest. Can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes & ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
STEP-BY-STEP CURRICULUM B1 INTERMEDIATE
The elementary step-by-step curriculum is designed to give students the confidence to start communicating in English. The B1 level is a total of 72 academic hours.

ESL Student Management System
All Rhenus Language Academy students get access to our ESL Student Management System to complete Homework Assignments, review Lesson Summaries and track their Progress. Our ESL Student Management System can be accessed from any connected device including laptops, smartphones and tablets.
